Latest News : Upcoming Bone marrow transplant Center in Kandy

Following the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Sri Lanka in 2015 , the Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka , His Eminence Archbishop Pierre Nguyen Van Tot arranged for the possibility of obtaining the services of clinicians of the ‘Bambino Gesu’ hospital in the Vatican , to help us in Sri Lanka. At their request eight engineers & architects of the CECB , Director & Haematologist of Teaching Hospital Kandy and four members of the Lanka Thalassaemia Circle visited the large BMT Centre of the ‘Bambino Gesu’ hospital in April 2018 , to familiarize with the building construction & BMT procedure.

Pre-natal diagnosis ( to diagnose Thalassaemia early in the first three months of the next pregnancy) by amniocentesis , is performed by us in Kandy , on mothers with previous Thalassaemia children now pregnant for the second time. Samples are sent to the Genetech laboratory , Colombo for analysis. 130 +amniocenteces have been performed so far
